About Your Tutor

Kate Simpson specialises in English language education for adults. Through Advanced English Tuition, she aims to help you achieve your career or study goals through excellence in English.

Kate’s passion for cultural and linguistic diversity led to her tertiary studies in French, Italian and Indonesian. However, her career focus has been English as a Second or Additional Language (ESL/EAL). Kate has extensive experience of working with clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, in Australia and internationally. She has developed academic English programs for several Australian universities, including Deakin University in Geelong.

Current research informs Kate’s teaching methodology. In 2018 she completed her Master of Applied Linguistics degree at the University of Melbourne, specialising in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL). Kate continues to incorporate the latest language-learning technologies and educational resources in her work. One of the highlights of her studies was engaging in group assignments with peers from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Kate lives on Wadawurrung country and has recently engaged in several community grant projects and events to support cultural education in her local area.

How it works

Tutorials

First, I’ll informally assess your spoken or written English language proficiency, identifying your strengths and weaknesses. Next, I will provide strategic guidance for your language development. You will then engage in a range of tasks or activities, according to your focus, and I will provide linguistic feedback. In response to this, you will adjust and develop your language. We will also explore appropriate resources and technologies for independent learning to assist you with achieving your learning goals. Written reports can be requested.

Payment will be made at the beginning of each session.

Convenience, Flexibility and Value

I will travel to meet you at a convenient Geelong or Melbourne location, such as your place of work or study, a library, a community centre or café.

We will meet during business hours at a time and on a day that suits you best. I will be in Geelong from Monday to Thursday and in Melbourne’s CBD on Fridays.

I offer intensive, individualised sessions. My linguistic knowledge and educational experience combined with your motivation and effort will lead to improved English proficiency.
